So Thankful For You: Malvin Subianto

This Thanksgiving, we are opening our hearts to those individuals with special needs at Yayasan Tri Asih. This project is inspired by and dedicated to our dearest alumnus, the late Malvin Subianto, Kelley School of Business Class of 2017, whose life purpose was to build special needs schools.

Malvin passed away on October 12, 2019 during his trip to Kepulauan Seribu. Yayasan Alumni IU Indonesia and fellow alumni would like to express our deepest condolences to the family of Malvin Subianto. For those who knew Malvin, no doubt he was a truly kind and humble person. We are very touched by the story we received from his closest friends. By holding this Thanksgiving gathering in memory of Malvin, he is surely missed and loved by us all.

Founded in 1969, Yayasan Tri Asih is home to 50 people with mental disabilities, whose IQs are less than 30 to those beyond measurements. The patients’ age range from 12 to 55 years old. Among those, 3 out of 5 are orphans. These individuals are in continuous need for costly intensive care and therapies.

We are proud that we successfully collected 140-million-Rupiah worth of donation. A fraction of it was used to buy food supplies and daily necessities at Yayasan Tri Asih, and the remaining was given in cash. On November 23, we had the chance to visit Yayasan Tri Asih to play and interact with all 50 patients. Some of the activities are Sensory Play and Hand Painting. We all had so much fun celebrating Thanksgiving with them.

The legacy that Malvin left us has made us aware to live beyond ourselves, to make a difference in the lives of others, and to give back to the society. His legacy is the residue of a life well lived. We are so thankful for you, Malvin. You may now rest in peace.
